Actress Rashmika Mandanna has expressed her gratitude following the arrest of the main accused responsible for creating a deepfake video featuring her. The actress took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her sentiments and encourage others to speak out against the unauthorized use of their images.
In her tweet, Rashmika Mandanna wrote, “Expressing my heartfelt gratitude to @DCP_IFSO. Thank you for apprehending those responsible. Feeling truly grateful for the community that embraces me with love, and support, and shields me. Girls and boys – if your image is used or morphed anywhere without your consent. It is wrong! And I hope this is a reminder that you are surrounded by people who will support you, and action will be taken!”
The main accused behind the creation and circulation of Rashmika’s deepfake video, which had gone viral on various social media platforms, was arrested in Andhra Pradesh by a Delhi Police team, according to an official statement on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Eemani Naveen, a 24-year-old resident of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh, was responsible for creating, uploading, and circulating the deepfake video across different social media platforms.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, IFSO, Hemant Tiwari, stated that a complaint was received, alleging the circulation of a deepfake video featuring a prominent film actress on social media platforms. Preliminary analysis revealed that the original video had been uploaded by a British Indian girl on her Instagram account in October 2023. Subsequently, the deepfake video of the actress was created and disseminated through various social media platforms.
The arrest of the main accused, Eemani Naveen, marks a significant development in the case, highlighting the commitment of law enforcement in addressing cybercrimes related to deepfake content. Rashmika Mandanna’s proactive response underscores the importance of raising awareness about the misuse of personal images and the need for collective support within the community.
As technology continues to advance, cases of deepfake videos and their potential consequences remain a concern. The arrest serves as a reminder that individuals can seek legal recourse and that law enforcement is actively working to combat such offenses, ensuring the safety and security of individuals online.
