Rahul Gandhi Takes to the Waters, Unearths Alleged Corruption on Majestic Brahmaputra Journey

Rahul Gandhi

In a departure from his usual mode of transportation, Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Indian National Congress, opted for a scenic boat ride on the Brahmaputra River during the Assam leg of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The journey took him to Majuli, the world’s largest river island, where he engaged in candid conversations with locals, uncovering layers of complexity in their relationship with the mighty river.

Accompanied by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, Gandhi delved into the pressing issues affecting Assam, particularly shedding light on alleged corruption within the state. Gogoi voiced concerns about the misuse of the state budget, highlighting that a significant portion is allegedly diverted to the Public Works Department (PWD). According to Gogoi, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also holds the PWD portfolio, is purportedly involved in taking a 10 percent cut from all projects related to the department. This revelation paints a grim picture of corruption within the state machinery.

During the boat journey, locals explained to Gandhi the intricate relationship between the people of Assam and the Brahmaputra. Beyond the mythical significance attached to the river, it became evident that corruption was a prevalent concern among the residents.

Gogoi further brought to Gandhi’s attention the existence of a private school named after the Chief Minister’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma. This revelation raised questions about the potential misuse of power and public resources, adding to the growing concerns of corruption within the state. The allegations suggest a web of corruption that extends beyond financial transactions and into various sectors, potentially impacting the development and well-being of the people.

As Rahul Gandhi continues his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the revelations from his boat journey on the Brahmaputra bring to light the challenges faced by the people of Assam and the need for greater transparency and accountability in the state’s administration. The allegations made by Gaurav Gogoi, if proven true, could have far-reaching consequences, prompting a closer examination of the state’s governance and the urgent need for corrective measures.
