San Francisco, January 11, 2024 – OpenAI, the leading artificial intelligence research lab, has officially rolled out the GPT Store, providing a platform for users on premium plans to buy, sell, and share customized AI models based on the company’s powerful large language models (LLMs). This development comes on the heels of the successful introduction of the GPT Builder program in November, which has seen users generate over 3 million GPTs.
The GPT Store aims to facilitate the discovery of useful and popular custom versions of ChatGPT, as stated by OpenAI. To access the GPT Store, users must subscribe to one of OpenAI’s premium ChatGPT plans, namely ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Enterprise, or the recently unveiled ChatGPT Team.
OpenAI, led by CEO Sam Altman, also announced a revenue-sharing program with GPT creators, set to commence in the first quarter of the year. This initiative is designed to incentivize and reward the creators contributing to the GPT ecosystem.
ChatGPT Team, the latest addition to OpenAI’s premium plans, is priced at $25 per month per user for annual billing or $30 per month for monthly billing. This plan is tailored for teams with up to 150 members and offers various features available in ChatGPT Enterprise, including access to GPT-4 and DALL-E3, along with the capability to create custom GPTs.
The launch of the GPT Store had initially been slated for November last year but faced delays amidst heightened drama surrounding the firing and subsequent rehiring of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
GPTs, or Generative Pre-trained Transformers, represent a groundbreaking approach, allowing users to create personalized versions of ChatGPT tailored to enhance their daily lives, specific tasks, or professional and domestic settings. Examples include using GPTs to learn the rules of board games, teaching mathematics to children, or even designing custom stickers.
With the GPT Store now live, OpenAI is poised to usher in a new era of collaborative AI development, empowering users to leverage the full potential of customized models in various applications.
