Another AIMIM Leader Shot Dead in Bihar’s Gopalganj District

AIMIM Leader Shot Dead

In a shocking turn of events, Abdul Salam, the district president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), met a tragic end as he was shot dead in Bihar’s Gopalganj district on Monday, February 12. The incident marks the second targeted killing of an AIMIM leader in the state within a short span.

Salam, who had previously contested but unsuccessfully in the by-poll to the Gopalganj assembly seat in November 2022, was on his way to catch a train when the unfortunate incident occurred. Riding a pillion with a relative, Salam fell victim to four assailants who ambushed them on two motorcycles, unleashing a hail of bullets.

This grim episode echoes a similar tragedy that struck the AIMIM in December 2023 when Arif Jamal, the party’s district president in Siwan, fell prey to a fatal attack. These successive incidents of violence targeting AIMIM leaders have sparked serious concerns regarding the safety and security of political figures in Bihar.

Expressing outrage over the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has vehemently criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Owaisi’s condemnation comes with a demand for comprehensive investigations into the killings and the swift delivery of justice for the victims.

The killings of Salam and Jamal have sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Bihar, prompting urgent calls for measures to address the escalating violence targeting political leaders. As investigations unfold, the focus remains on restoring peace and ensuring the safety of all citizens, particularly those involved in the democratic process.
