Alleged Assault on Muslim Man Sparks Tension in Morgi Village, Five Arrested

Morgi Village

In a disturbing incident on the Telangana-Karnataka border, a Muslim man was reportedly assaulted and paraded naked by villagers of Morgi village. The altercation ensued after the man posted a reel online, which insulted a saffron flag bearing the Hindu symbol ‘Om’. Following the incident, the man, along with four others accused of aiding him, was arrested by local authorities.

According to media reports, the victim was subjected to physical violence by enraged villagers, sparking outrage and concern over communal tensions in the region. Sangareddy Superintendent of Police (SP) Chennuri Rupesh addressed the issue, stating that a counter case had been filed against those involved in the assault, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

“A meeting of elders from both faiths was convened to restore calm. There is no tension now,” SP Rupesh assured, highlighting efforts to pacify the situation and foster communal harmony amidst escalating tensions.

The police further revealed that the controversial video was recorded on the day of the consecration of the Ram idol at the newly constructed temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The footage contained inflammatory remarks, with a voice in the background purportedly stating, “Tumhari aukaat humare pairon ki dhool (your status is the dust on our feet). We are Muslim, don’t forget it…”

In response to the incident, legal action has been initiated against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 153A (promoting enmity between groups), 253A (offending religious beliefs), and 505 (2) (promoting hatred or ill-will).

Simultaneously, a countercase has been registered against the villagers involved in the assault, citing offenses under IPC Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 505 (2) (statements conducing public mischief), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

In a stern warning issued on social media, SP Chennuri underscored the gravity of the situation and reiterated the imperative of mutual respect for religious beliefs. He affirmed that stringent measures would be taken against any individuals found guilty of inciting religious animosity, emphasizing the paramount importance of preserving communal harmony in the region.

The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the delicate religious fabric of society and the pressing need for tolerance and understanding among communities to avert such disturbing confrontations in the future.
