Parasite’s Song Kang Ho on his debut series Uncle Samsik

Parasite star Song Kang Ho is all set to star in the upcoming series Uncle Samsik. Set in 1960s Korea, the period drama revolves around Park Doo-chill, a man who works in the shadows for the country’s prosperity.

During a press conference attended by Filmfare, the show’s cast and crew opened up about its making. Sharing details about his series debut, Song Kang Ho shared, “I have been acting on stage in the theatre or in movies, and after 35 years, I’m in a series. So it’s kind of new to me. I’m a little bit nervous. It was a new challenge for me, so I have mixed feelings.”

Song Kang Ho believes that Uncle Samsik is a “uniquely Korean title,” as Samsik translates to three meals. He said, “Since the series is set in an era when people were desperate for food, there are sentiments that are unique to Korean culture and history. While the historical setting is in the backdrop, it captures the lives we are living through fictional characters. It gives a lot of food for thought.”

The first five episodes of Uncle Samsik will release on May 15 with two episodes dropping every Wednesday.
