Navi Mumbai: Rajasthan student booked as proxy candidate appears in NEET exam

Navi Mumbai Police booked a Rajasthan student for allegedly making a proxy candidate appear in place of her at the NEET medical entrance exam in Navi Mumbai, an official said on Monday. According to a PTI report, the 20-year-old Rajasthan student`s bluff was discovered at an examination centre for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) in CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

The case was filed against the student from Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, on Sunday under Indian Penal Code sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention), as well as other pertinent provisions, according to an official from the CBD Belapur police station. This was in response to a complaint made by an official at the examination centre, PTI report stated. 

Police said that an investigation was underway into the case.

In a similar case from Rajasthan`s Bharatpur, an MBBS student took a medical entrance exam on Sunday instead of a NEEt candidate Per another PTI report, the proxy candidate and five others were detained. Officials told news agencies that after a preliminary probe, Abhishek Gupta, a student at a government college was involved in the scam headed by his fellow Ravi Meena who was accused of taking Rs 10 lakh from Rahul Gurjar the candidate. 

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aklesh Kumar told PTI, “At an examination centre, Abhishek was found impersonating Rahul Gurjar. On suspicion, the invigilator handed him over to the police. During initial interrogation, he told police that he was accompanied by five others.”

He alleged that his associates were sitting in a car outside the Master Adityendra School examination centre, which is under the Mathura Gate police station. The ASP added that the accused are being questioned and that further action will be taken as needed. According to police, those in detention include Amit, Dayaram, Suraj Singh, Gupta, Meena, and Gurjar.

At the same time, some candidates for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) at a Sawai Madhopur centre reported receiving question papers in Hindi and vice versa for those who had selected English as their medium of choice. The parents of the candidates claimed that after they protested, the cops beat them, reported PTI. 

Subsequently, the National Testing Agency (NTA) disclosed to the public that they had discovered an instance of “incorrect distribution” of test questions by the centre supervisor.
