Kiran Rao opens about going through several miscarriages before son Azad was born

Kiran Rao, who was recently in talks for her second directorial Laapataa Ladies, which was appreciated by audiences, opened up about her struggle to become a mother in an interview with a leading portal.

She was asked if she ever regretted taking a 10-year pause to raise her son Azad. Kiran revealed that becoming a mother was tough for her and that for five years, she dealt with miscarriages, personal, and physical health issues.

Despite the challenges, she really wanted to be a mother and have a child.

She revealed that when Azad was born in 2011 via surrogacy, all she wanted to do was be beside him and raise him. She added that she doesn’t regret that time and enjoyed herself to the fullest.

Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan welcomed Azad in 2011 via surrogacy. Although the couple have divorced, they continue to co-parent their child.
