Flesh trade racket busted in Thane; 2 held

An official on Monday said that police have busted a flesh trade racket at a lodge in Maharashtra`s Thane district and arrested two persons in this connection, reported news agency PTI.

The official from Central police station said based on a tip, a police team raided the lodge in Ulhasnagar township on Saturday and rescued a woman from there, reported PTI.

The manager of the lodge and a waiter were arrested while search was on for the establishment`s owner, he said.

An FIR was registered against the three persons under Indian Penal Code sections 370 (trafficking of persons) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) and provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, he said.

The police said the woman found at the lodge was sent to a rescue home, reported PTI.

In another case, the police on Sunday said that a case has been registered against a 27-year-old man for allegedly beating up his live-in partner and subjecting her to unnatural sex in Thane district, reported PTI.

An official said that based on a complaint lodged by the 25-year-old woman, the Ambernath police on Friday registered a case under sections 377 (unnatural sex), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 506 (criminal intimidation) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, reported PTI.

He said the woman, in her complaint, has alleged that her live-in partner thrashed her with a belt and punched her on the intervening night of June 13 and 14, reported PTI.

According to PTI report, the official said the man also allegedly subjected her to unnatural sex and threatened her.

The official further said that no arrest has been made in the case so far, and further probe is underway.
