Everything We’re Watching This Week: Heeramandi and more

We’ve already reached the end of April, which went by rather quickly. The month has been very busy on the entertainment front because of the release of much anticipated projects like Amar Singh Chamkila, Do Aur Do Pyaar Challengers and OTT ventures like Dead Boy Detectives and Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout. With the release of much awaited projects like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heermandi and Anne Hathaway starrer The Idea of You, this week seems to be even more exciting.

The Veil

Cast: Elisabeth Moss, Yumna Marwan, Josh Charles and Dali Benssalah

The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lie on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. The series stars Elisabeth Moss, Yumna Marwan,Josh Charles and Dali Benssalah in central roles and it is created by Steven Knight.

Heeramandi

Cast: Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh and Sharmin Saigal
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus OTT series revolves around the rivals Mallikajaan and Fareedan who are engaged in a war for the throne of Heeramandi, a place where courtesans hold queenly authority. Young Alam, Mallikajaan’s youngest daughter, is the only one with hope. What happens, though, when Alam gives up authority and selects one man’s affection over the admiration of many? The show stars  Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh and Sharmin Saigal in pivotal roles.

T . P Bon

Cast: Akihisa Wakayama, Atsumi Tanezaki, Mamoru Miyano and Yoko Hikasa
This anime adaptation of the manga series centres around Bon, a typical high school student who unexpectedly finds himself assigned to the Time Patrol, a time-travelling team. They travel across many eras and locations across the globe on an exciting yet crucial mission to save people from critical historical periods. As Bon and his friends explore the complexities of time travel, they face difficulties that sharpen their historical understanding while also putting their resolve to the test. The creator of the show is Fujiko F. Fujio and the voice overs are done by Akihisa Wakayama, Atsumi Tanezaki, Mamoru Miyano and Yoko Hikasa.

The Idea of You

Cast: Anne Hathaway, Nicholas Galitzine, Ella Rubin and Perry Mattfeld
This romantic comedy challenges social conventions and centres on 40-year-old single mother Solène Marchand. She discovers herself entangled in an unexpected romance with 24-year-old pop sensation Hayes Campbell while attending Coachella. As they go through a wonderful transformation together, this odd couple confronts their preconceived assumptions about love, companionship, and expectations. The movie is an adaptation of the same-titled novel by Robinne Lee. The film is directed by Michael Showalter and stars Anne Hathaway, Nicholas Galitzine, Ella Rubin and Perry Mattfeld in pivotal roles.

The Fall Guy

Stuntman Colt Seavers returns to action after a year away from the industry when the lead of a major studio film vanishes out of nowhere. As the actor’s disappearance becomes increasingly mysterious, Colt soon finds himself entangled in a dark scheme that threatens to topple him more than any stunt. This action comedy stars Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Hannah Waddingham and Lee Majors in pivotal roles and is directed by David Leitch.

Tarot

Cast: Avantika Vandanapu, Larsen Thompson, Jacob Batalon and Harriet Slater
A cursed tarot card deck contains an unfathomable horror that a group of friends unintentionally unleash. They encounter fate one by one and must race against the clock to avoid the fate predicted by their readings. This horror film is co-directed by  Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen. It stars Avantika Vandanapu, Larsen Thompson, Jacob Batalon and Harriet Slater in major roles.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz

Cast: Harvey Keitel, Anna Próchniak, Melanie Lynskey and Jonas Nay
This series is an adaption of Heather Morris’s critically acclaimed novel by the same name and depicts the poignant and disturbing actual story of Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew who finds himself inside the harsh walls of the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. As the camp’s tattoo artist, who is in charge of giving inmates identification numbers, Lale struggles with the moral ambiguities of his job while gaining little benefits for survival. He finds love with fellow prisoner Gita Furman in the midst of the horror, giving them a light of hope in the face of their terrible circumstances. The show stars Harvey Keitel, Anna Próchniak, Melanie Lynskey and Jonas Nay and is directed by Tali Shalom Ezer.

The Atypical Family

Cast: Claudia Kim, Jang Ki-Yong and Chun Woo-hee
This South Korean drama revolves around the lives of Bok Gwi-Joo and his family—all of whom possess unique supernatural abilities. Once able to travel back in time to relive his most joyful moments, Gwi-Joo discovers that his ability to time travel is diminishing as he struggles with sadness. His relatives struggle with modern issues like smartphone addiction and sleeplessness, and they also witness a decline in their abilities. As the enigmatic Do Da-hae joins their complicated lives, she brings with her unexpected difficulties and changes.The series stars Claudia Kim, Jang Ki-Yong and Chun Woo-hee and is directed by Jo Hyun-taek.
