Mahindra is working on launching the new generation of the Scorpio on June 27th. It will be called Scorpio N and there is a lot of excitement around the new SUV. The manufacturer has already revealed the exterior as well as the interior of the Scorpio N. Now, the Scorpio N has been spotted with side-facing seats in the third row.
The interior images that Mahindra released showcased front-facing third-row seats and even the spy video had front-facing seats. The new spy shots shared by Rushlane have third-row seats that are side-facing. So, it seems like the Scorpio N will be offered in three seating arrangements.
The top-end variants will get captain seats for the second row. The middle variants will get a bench seat for the second row. The side-facing jump seats will be offered only on the lower and base variants. Variants that will come with jump seats will not be offered with captain chairs for the second row.
We can see that the jump seats are also finished in brown colour just like the rest of the upholstery. Mahindra is using a brown and black theme that does give an upmarket look to the cabin. Moreover, there is also white stitching throughout the interior.
The exterior of the Scorpio N is all-new. It gets Mahindra’s new twins-peak logo that we first saw on the XUV700. It also retains the 6 vertical slat grille that all Mahindra SUV gets. The overall design is still butch and has a strong road presence.
There are new twin-pod LED projector headlamps, a new bumper with LED fog lamps with C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps. On the sides, there are 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, roof rails and LED turn indicators on the outside rearview mirrors. At the rear, there are new vertical LED tail lamps. Mahindra has redesigned the rear but it still retains its side-hinged tailgate that opens via a door handle.
When you climb into the interior, you would notice a lot of elements that are taken from the XUV700’s MX variant. It gets the same multi-functional steering wheel, analogue instrument cluster, multi-information display and stalks. There is a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Features on offer are dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, push-button to start/stop the engine, multiple airbags, a Sony sound system and much more.
Engine and gearbox
Mahindra will offer the Scorpio N with a petrol and a diesel engine. Both will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There would also be a 4×4 drivetrain on offer.
Current Scorpio will not be discontinued
Mahindra will not discontinue the existing Scorpio. It will continue to sell alongside the new-gen Scorpio. However, Mahindra will rename it and call it Scorpio Classic. Mahindra will continue to sell some limited variants of the current Scorpio. This is not the first time that two generations of the same vehicle will stay on sale in the market. Honda is currently doing the same with the City 5th gen and the City 4th gen.
