A grenade was hurled at the residence of former Punjab minister and BJP national executive member Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar early Tuesday by an unidentified person. Kalia was inside at the time but was not harmed in the attack.
According to the police, the explosive landed near the gate of his house at around 1 am. Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet Singh reached the spot, and forensic teams were called in to assist with the investigation. Several BJP leaders began arriving at Kalia’s residence to check on him and show support.
A side door near the entrance was damaged in the blast. CCTV footage revealed that the attacker arrived on an e-rickshaw, threw the grenade, and escaped using the same vehicle.
A loud noise first alerted Kalia about the blast.
A police station is located just a few hundred metres from the BJP leader’s house.
