Samsung is now rolling out the latest Android security update to four Galaxy S21 smartphones in the US, the update for June 2025. The devices that are getting it are the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, and Galaxy S21 FE.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 series in the US is getting June 2025 update, but only some locked models… for now
The update is only out for some carrier-locked variants of these phones… for now. It will quickly spread to more devices and unlocked models too, if it hasn’t already by the time you see this. And no, the US is not the first market to get this update. The June 2025 update has been rolling out to these devices elsewhere for weeks now.
The June 2025 Android security update brings 18 fixes from Google, which are directly related to Android. Samsung has added 19 of its own fixes on top of that, fixes for vulnerabilities found in Samsung’s software. The update is rolling out in stages, of course. You can check for it manually, though, if you wish, through the settings.
The Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra will not get Android 16
As a reminder, the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra will only receive security updates in the future. Android 15 (with One UI 7.0) was their last major Android OS update. The Galaxy S21 FE, on the other hand, is eligible to get Android 16 with One UI 8.0.
If you still own one of the Galaxy S21 series devices, it may be time to upgrade in the near future. You’re still good to go, as long as security updates are coming, but… you won’t get getting new Android OS versions and belonging features.
The original Galaxy S21 lineup, which consists of three phones, was announced back in January 2021. Back then, Samsung promised four years of major Android OS updates, and the company delivered. Yes, those devices are almost four and a half years old at this point. Time truly does fly by.
