Nowadays, voice assistants can be used for pretty much anything in our lives. Many people use them to control their smart home devices. However, folks using Google Assistant to manage their smart lights are having an issue. For some reason, a bug in Google Home won’t let people change the color of their smart lights.
At this point, it’s clear that the issue isn’t affecting smart lights from specific brands. In fact, people using devices from Philips Hue, Xiaomi, Tuya, WiZ, and Yeelight are experiencing this issue. The commonality, however, is Google Assistant.
A Google Home bug won’t let people change the color of their smart lights
This is a pretty small issue, but it’s still annoying. Using Google Home, people can change light settings, such as brightness. All they have to do is summon the assistant and tell it to increase or decrease brightness. The same thing goes for adjusting colors. However, when people would ask Google Assistant to change the color of their lights, the app would respond by saying that the lights were offline. However, upon checking the app, it will show that the lights are online.
So, it appears that a bug is affecting Google Assistant specifically. Since Google is in the process of deprecating Google Assistant and replacing it with Gemini, it would seem that this was intentional. However, it looks like this is just a run-of-the-mill bug. According to reports, Google has acknowledged the incident and is “actively looking into it.”
A bug like this doesn’t seem like it should be very difficult to fix. So, hopefully, Google will have a fix for it soon. It may not be world-shattering, but it can still put a damper on the whole smart home experience.
If you are experiencing this issue, then you may just want to use the Google Home app to manually adjust the colors of your lights for now. As stated before, this is only a Google Assistant issue.
