Meta has been quite actively pushing new features to Threads in the past few months. After ramping up the testing of the Community Notes for its social media platforms, including Instagram, the company is now testing the ability that lets you add up to ten topics to your Threads profile. Meta, in its announcement blog, notes that topics are a “new way for you to personalize your profile.”
Meta announces that it’s testing ability that lets you add topics to your Threads profile
The added topics allow you to showcase your favorite communities and interests when someone visits your Threads profile. It’s worth noting that tapping a topic on someone’s profile will make it easier for you to engage with others on the platform who share similar interests. It will also allow others to find you quite easily.
Threads will show you prompts to add suggested trending topics or the ones related to your previous post. You’ll see those suggestions when drafting a new post. Meta has also redesigned the timely topics tag, which appears as a pill and is visible next to your post in the For You feed. Tapping those will quickly get you to the topics you find interesting.
The company claims that posts tagged with topics “generally receive more views than those without one.” However, it didn’t provide any data to back this claim. Notably, Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, also posted what the added topics would look like on your Threads profile. While topics are currently in the testing phase, there’s a new feature that’s rolling out immediately to Threads.
Starting today, you’ll be able to choose to allow replies and quote posts only from your followers. This feature is built on top of the Quote Controls feature, which it introduced back in November last year. The company is also starting to phase civic and political content back into Threads in a more personalized way. For the uninitiated, the social media giant stopped proactively recommending political content because of the U.S. presidential election last year.
You can now also shuffle your custom feeds and enjoy the refreshed media player
Besides testing the ability to add topics to the profile, Meta is also giving the Threads media player a much-needed refresh. You’ll now find new pause, play, and skip buttons for a better viewing experience. The media player also includes a pinned progress bar, so you can go back and forth in the video seamlessly.
This is probably the biggest announcement of all, Meta is now allowing Threads users to shuffle their custom feeds. If you’d like to see a custom feed that you created when you first opened the app, you can now make that your default.
