You can now buy the Light Phone 3: Here’s what to expect

If you’re tempted by the idea of going off-grid—but not too off-grid—then the Light Phone 3 is for you. This phone isn’t for the average smartphone user. It’s for people who want less, not more. Fewer distractions, fewer notifications, fewer apps. Just phone, text, music, notes, maps, and most importantly, no social media. If you want to buy the Light Phone 3, here’s what you’ll be getting.

What do you actually get?

The Light Phone 3 keeps things extremely minimal by 2025 standards. For starters, you’re looking at a 3.92-inch monochrome OLED screen. This is a change from its predecessor, which used an e-ink panel. Under the hood, you’ll find the Snapdragon 4450 chip, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. There’s an 8MP selfie cam for video calls and a 50MP rear camera that outputs 12MP shots. We’ve seen higher-res cameras on other phones, but that’s not really the point if you want to buy the Light Phone 3.

There’s support for USB-C charging and a 1,800mAh battery. There is no mention of fast charging. However, paired with the smaller, monochrome display and a less powerful chipset, it’ll probably last longer than you expect.

The phone does come with fingerprint unlocking via a top bezel sensor. There’s a built-in physical scroll wheel to adjust the display’s brightness. That wheel doubles as a flashlight button.

What you won’t get?

The Light Phone 3 is designed as a minimalist, distraction-free phone. As such, you won’t find modern smartphone features like an app store, internet browser, social media (thank god), or email. Basically, all the digital distractions that consumes your attention are gone. The Light Phone 3 runs on Android, but the company has stripped it down to the point it’s barely recognizable, at least by modern smartphone standards.

Should you buy the Light Phone 3?

If you’re sick of the digital distractions consuming your life—social media, endless tweets from politicians or celebrities—then the Light Phone 3 is for you. Keep in mind you’ll give up quite a lot of modern amenities here, which is difficult for some, but maybe some will find it worthwhile.

The Light Phone 3 doesn’t come cheap. It is priced at $799, which is a huge ask for its features. But maybe the peace and quiet it provides is worth it.
