What Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni told Dwayne Bravo ahead of the CSK vs KKR clash

While Chennai Super Kings face Kolkata Knight Riders in a home fixture at Chepauk on Friday evening, it will also see captain MS Dhoni facing his long-time team-mate at CSK Dwayne Bravo, who is now the bowling coach of the Knight Riders. While Bravo had earlier played for the Chennai franchise in two stints, first from 2011 to 2015 and second from 2018 to 2022, the West Indian had worked as CSK bowling coach from 2023 to 2024 before joining Knight Riders as their bowling coach. A day prior to the clash, Bravo met Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja at the CSK nets and Dhoni jokingly called the West Indian a ‘Traitor’ before the two met.

“The traitor is here,” Dhoni was heard saying in a video uploaded by the CSK social media handles on the match day. In the video, Bravo first meets Jadeja before walking to Dhoni, who is batting in the nets. As Bravo comes closer to the nets, Dhoni is heard saying the phrase before the two embrace each other and have a good laugh.

Bravo, who had played the first three seasons for Mumbai Indians, was first picked up by CSK in 2011 before he was picked up by Gujarat Lions in the IPL auction in 2016. CSK had roped in Bravo again in 2018 and then again retained him in the 2019 and 2022 mega auction. The West Indian all-rounder, who made 1550 runs and picked up 163 wickets in 161 matches in his IPL career, had joined as Knight Riders bowling coach last year. With two wins out of five matches, Knight Riders are currently placed at the sixth spot in the points table. Bravo had earlier urged the team’s batsmen to apply themselves a bit more. “We have an aggressive batting line-up, but that’s not cricket. My message to the batters is that the basics of the game are still required. These guys need to apply themselves a bit more, and I think they understand that.” Bravo had said earlier this month.

Dhoni, meanwhile will be captaining CSK after Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined from the IP due to an injury. “He (Dhoni) had no hesitation to step up and help guide us out of this if we can. So that was never a doubt,”  CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had told the media on Thursday.
