Prosus CEO Fabricio Bloisi reaffirmed India’s place as a core market for the global consumer internet group, alongside Europe and Latin America. “India is critical,” said Bloisi, adding that the company has already invested $9 billion in the country and plans to deploy “many more billions soon.”

Bloisi, who previously founded a Prosus-backed business, said his entrepreneurial background shapes the group’s long-term outlook. “We don’t like short-term… We want to invest for the next 20, 30 years,” he said, highlighting a shift from quick exits to sustained value creation.

AI, he said, is the most important bet Prosus is making globally and one with specific applications in India. From enabling personalised education for hundreds of millions to powering healthcare in remote areas, Bloisi sees India as uniquely positioned to lead in real-world AI adoption. “AI makes the company grow faster and operate cheaper,” he said, calling it as important as the industrial revolution.

While some portfolio companies like BYJU’S have faced headwinds, Bloisi remains bullish. “Swiggy is an example of a focused, well-run business. Others will follow.”

The group expects around five IPOs from its India portfolio in the next two years. While return rates in India have been lower than in other markets, Bloisi said many of the companies are yet to realise their full potential. “The IRR I’m looking for is what’s going to happen in the next two, three years.”

With a current portfolio of 35 companies in India and flexibility for both early and large bets, Bloisi concluded: “India is going to grow. We’re going to keep investing here for the long term.”

Bloisi closed with a firm signal: Prosus isn’t just backing companies. It’s backing India’s tech ambition for the next generation.
