Last week, Vivo released a short teaser video for the upcoming X Fold 5 foldable smartphone. The teaser indicated that the Vivo X Fold 5 could go official as the thinnest foldable offering to date. Furthermore, the company also teased that the Vivo X Fold 3 (review) successor could also be the lightest in the segment. Now, Vivo has finally confirmed the launch date, design, and color variants of the X Fold 5 flagship.
Vivo finally sets a launch date for the X Fold 5
Vivo has announced that it will launch the X Fold 5 in its home market of China on June 25 at 7 PM local time. In a post on China’s Weibo, the company has claimed that the new device will be “lighter, stronger” than the X Fold 3. The accompanying poster shows a slim folded profile and a large protruding camera bump at the rear. If we believe the reports, the new X Fold offering could measure 4.3mm when unfolded, 8.7mm when folded, and tip the scale at 209g.
Vivo is already taking pre-orders for the X Fold 5 in China on its website. The phone’s landing page indicates that the device will come with a flat display with slim bezels and a centered hole-punch selfie camera slot at the top. Vivo has placed a large, circular camera module on the back, which has the ZEISS branding.
Another post from the company confirms that it will sell the X Fold 5 in three color variants – green, titanium, and white.
The X Fold 5 will be the first Android phone to connect directly to Apple’s iCloud
In a separate Weibo post, Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao claimed that the X Fold 5 will be the first Android device to be able to directly connect to Apple’s iCloud. This means that users will be able to access any files in their iCloud account directly from the X Fold 5’s file manager application. Furthermore, the phone will be able to synchronize with an iPhone in real-time. Additionally, reports suggest it’ll function as an extended screen for MacBook owners and facilitate AirPods pairing.
As for other specs, Vivo has already revealed that the X Fold 5 will sport 8T LTPO main and cover displays with high-frequency PWM dimming. Leaks suggest that the phone will have IP5X and IPX9+ ratings for dust and water resistance. Vivo might equip the device with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, supported by a 6,000mAh battery that offers 90W fast charging. We’ll have more details in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned.
