Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar called on former Chief Justice of India Justice TS Thakur in Dado Deoria of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday at the residence of the latter’s in-laws.
The Vice President not only met Justice Thakur, but also interacted with his family. Justice TS Thakur has his residence in nearby Sarsani village. During this meeting, local administration officials were present and security arrangements were made. The Vice President spent an hour-and-a-half at the former CJI’s house. Dhankhar and his entourage were also served lunch.
A relative of the former CJI said Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Justice Thakur practiced law together in Delhi High Court and Supreme Court. Later, Thakur was appointed to the judiciary and Dhankhar continued his law practice. The friendship that was formed during that period continues even now, the relative said.
Vice President Dhankhar was in Himachal Pradesh to attend an event at YS Parmar Forestry and Horticulture University, Nauni, after which he visited Dado Deoria. He later returned to Nauni, from where his next stop was Chandigarh.
Former CJI Thakur is well-known for his humility and simple lifestyle. In 1978, he married Amita Thakur, daughter of late Chatar Singh and Ratna Panwar, former Director of Public Relations Department of Himachal Pradesh Government. Despite holding important posts with special protocol, Justice Thakur travels to the remote hills of Himachal Pradesh without any show or special arrangements.
