The Vadodara city police on Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old teacher for allegedly sexually assaulting a 11-year-old student at a coaching centre in Makarpura. The accused teaches Maths at the private coaching centre and is a full-time employee of a private primary school, police said.
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
Police said that on the day of the incident, the accused allegedly sent off other students of the coaching class for some party and asked the victim to stay back.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, F Division, Pranav Kataria, on Wednesday said that the teacher is a local resident and that the incident happened on March 15. “We received a complaint on Monday from the victim’s parents, who alleged that the teacher had assaulted her on March 15… He allegedly asked the other students to go out for a party after handing them some money. The victim stayed back and was molested.”
The police have begun scanning CCTV footage.
