New Delhi | July 12, 2025: In a stern reminder to Indian visa holders and applicants, the United States Embassy in India has issued a fresh advisory making it clear that visa approval is not the end of the screening process. The embassy emphasized that compliance with US laws and immigration rules is mandatory even after a visa is granted, and failure to do so could result in revocation and deportation.

“US visa screening does not stop after a visa is issued. We continuously monitor visa holders to ensure they follow all US laws and immigration rules – and we will revoke their visas and deport them if they don’t,” stated the embassy in a public communication released on Saturday, July 12.

Ongoing Scrutiny After Visa Grant

This advisory forms part of a broader shift in US immigration and visa scrutiny policies. According to embassy officials, post-approval monitoring has become a standard protocol, particularly for students, temporary workers, and exchange visitors.

“Omitting social media information can lead to visa denial and future ineligibility,” the embassy warned.

Furthermore, F, M, and J category non-immigrant visa applicants—including students and exchange visitors—are strongly encouraged to switch their social media profiles to “public”. This will assist US consular officers in verifying identity and admissibility under US law.
