
Police have seized illicit liquor and other equipment valued at Rs 30.7 lakh and arrested two persons after busting two manufacturing units of the contraband in Maharashtra`s Palghar district, officials said on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI.
Based on inputs, the police raided the two units on Panju island in Vasai area on Monday, senior police inspector Aviraj Kurhade said, reported PTI.
They seized 150 litres of liquor and equipment used in brewing valued at Rs 17.8 lakh from one of the units.
A 50-year-old man found manufacturing country liquor at the unit was arrested while his associate managed to escape, the official said, reported PTI.
During the raid at another unit, the police seized liquor and other materials of Rs 12.9 lakh and arrested a 34-year-old man engaged in large-scale liquor brewing there, he said, reported PTI.
Separate cases have been registered in connection with the two raids under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, the police added.
MBVV cops bust mephedrone manufacturing unit in Telangana, arrest 12
Meanwhile, the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police in Maharashtra busted a mephedrone manufacturing unit in Telangana and arrested 12 persons, including a Bangladeshi woman, a senior official said on Saturday, reported PTI.
The unit was situated in Cherlapally in the southern state, he added.
In another incident, Mephedrone weighing 5.968 kilograms rpt kilograms, 27 mobile phones, three four-wheelers, four electronic scales, chemicals and other materials used in the production of the contraband have been seized along with Rs 23.97 lakh cash, MBVV police commissioner Niket Kaushik told reporters.
“The total value of the items seized, including mephedrone, will be running into several crore rupees. We have arrested 12 persons, including a Bangladeshi woman. Further probe is underway to unravel the entire supply chain linked to the unit,” he said, reported PTI.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing valuables worth Rs 24.42 lakh from her sister`s house in Maharashtra`s Thane district within eight hours of the crime, police said on Friday. The accused, a resident of Navi Mumbai, was apprehended in connection with the burglary at a house in the Mumbra area on August 31, an official said, reported PTI.
