Two cousins killed in Thane stabbing, assailants on the run

The police on Tuesday said that two cousin brothers have been killed allegedly by some unidentified persons in Maharashtra`s Thane district, reported news agency PTI.

The assailants struck the victims with a sword and knife on a street at Khardi village in Bhiwandi area around 11.30 pm on Monday, Bhiwandi taluka police station inspector Harshavardhan Barve said.

The severely injured duo fell on the ground. They were later rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead, he said, adding the motive behind the attack was not yet known, reported PTI.

The victims — Praful Tangdi (42) and Chetan Tangdi (22) — were residents of Khardi village, according to police, reported PTI.

The bodies were sent to a government hospital for postmortem, the official said.

A case was registered under section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the unidentified assailants and efforts were on to nab them, he said.

11 booked for assaulting woman over dispute involving minor boy

In another case, Bhiwandi city police registered an FIR against 11 persons for allegedly creating ruckus at the house of a woman and outraging her modesty during a late-night altercation, a senior officer said on Sunday, reported PTI.

Assistant Police Inspector Pramod Pardeshi said the dispute stemmed from frequent visits the 11-year-old son of the accused paid to the house of the woman, who is his neighbour, for playing, reported PTI.

The accused suspected that the woman intended to keep the boy with her permanently.

“On August 7, some persons visited the house of the woman, hurled abuses, and assaulted her with sticks. One of the accused, Umer Ahmed Raza, struck the complainant`s uncle in the face with a stone. The sister-in-law of the accused grabbed the complainant by the throat, dragged her, and tore her clothes,” he said, reported PTI.

An FIR was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on August 8.

Further investigation is underway to verify the sequence of events and arrest the accused persons.

“We are collecting CCTV footage from the vicinity,” Pardeshi added.
