Top movers today June 4: Sensex jumps over 250 pts, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, IndusInd, Tata Motors lead gainers, SPARC & ABFRL slump

Equity benchmark indices trade in the consolidation phase amid mixed global cues and foreign fund outflows. Market experts believe that the investor sentiment is cautious but optimistic with global developments and upcoming RBI policy decisions influencing market movement.

After a muted opening, Sensex rose marginally by 220.17 pts or 0.27 per cent to 80,957.68 as at 12.52 pm, and Nifty 50 inched up 52.85 pts or 0.22 per cent to 24,595.35. Both midcap and smallcap indexes traded with marginal gains. The volatility index declined 5 per cent to 15.66.

On sectoral front, realty and consumer durables slipped while all others traded with modest gains.

Top gainers & losers intraday

Shares of Eternal, Bharti Airtel, IndusInd, Tata Motors and Tech Mahindra led the gainers of Nifty 50 intraday, while Trent, JSW Steel, L&T, Axis Bank and Eicher Motors emerged as major laggards.

Eternal and Bharti Airtel led the Nifty 50 pack with over 2 per cent increase. IndusInd Bank and Tata Motors gained over 1 per cent.

On the flip side, Trent depreciated close to 2 per cent. JSW Steel, L&T, Axis Bank and Eicher Motors slipped to trade in negative territory.

Among smallcap, RITES, Swan Energy, JWL, IGIL and GRSE soared 5-7 per cent. RVNL, Policy Bazaar, SBI Card gained among midcap.

Defence stocks GRSE, MTARTECH, Cochin Shipyard, Zen Tech and Unimech surged 2-5 per cent.

Nearly 1,547 stocks advanced and 1,147 declined of all the 2,774 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange at the time of writing. KPI Green, GRSE were among 81 stocks hit upper circuit, and 52 hit the lower circuit (including SPARC). 48 shares such as Apollo, AstraZeneca, Dodla, Bharti Hexacom, GRSE and ITD Cementation hit 52-week high and 26 hit 52-week low including Aditya Birla Fashion and SFL.

On the BSE, stocks Ircon and Railtel jumped over 12 per cent. Nava, Allcargo and Texmaco Rail zoomed 8 per cent. On the losing side, SPARC, ABFRL slumped 10-18 per cent, while Cholamandalam Investment tanked 4 per cent.
