Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody feels that Gujarat Titans` opening duo Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill have learned how to shift gears, which helps them to successfully deal with any situation.
“What it shows you is the class of that batting pair. They are proper batters that have the technique that can weather any storm, but also… they have both developed this over time, they have learnt how to move through the gears. They may have only had three gears in previous years, but both of them have five gears they can shift to,” Moody said on ESPNcricinfo Time Out.
In the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals, GT`s Gill and Sudharsan displayed extraordinary class by registering unbeaten scores of 93 and 108 runs, respectively. The duo helped GT chase down a target of 200 runs without losing any wickets.
Shubman and Sai both have crossed the 600-run mark in the ongoing IPL 2025. Sai is enjoying his rich vein in form and has secured the top spot on the list with 617 runs in 12 matches. On the other hand, skipper Shubman Gill has accumulated 601 runs in the same number of games.
Shubman`s and Sudharsan`s opening pair look easy on the eye, but their sublime performances are laced with power-hitting. GT captain has racked up 54 fours and 23 sixes this season, while Sudharsan boasts 68 boundaries and 20 maximums.
The 205 runs the duo combined to add against Delhi Capitals were the best they have executed this season. Their success is reflected in the 839 runs they have amassed together at an impressive average of 76.27.
Sudharsan has the most fours struck by a player this season, while Rajasthan Royals` Yashasvi Jaiswal is the only player to hit more fours than the GT skipper.
Further speaking, the 59-year-old Moody stated that the duo has a good sense of understanding about each other`s game.
“I think the way they dovetail together as an opening pair, they seem to really understand each other`s game. One seems to fall in behind the other if one`s got off to a flier. So they cover each other, and there seems to be a pattern in that throughout the season. And just their traditional strokeplay,” concluded the former Australian cricketer.
