Suddenly, there is an attempt to paint Telugu cinema heroes as kind-natured men. The other day, in an interview, Asian Cinemas’ Suniel Narang opined that heroes shouldn’t be expected to cut down on their fees because they are “gods” by virtue of being so few in a country of 1.4 billion!
At an event the other day, leading producer Dil Raju commented that Telugu heroes have always adjusted their fees keeping in view the situation of their producers. Nithiin, he revealed, didn’t demand any fee for doing Thammudu. In the past, Dil Raju had similar good experiences with Prabhas (Mr. Perfect), Jr NTR (Brindavanam), Mahesh Babu (Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu), and Pawan Kalyan (Vakeel Saab).
The whole narrative-building is taking place at a time when many exhibitors and distributors are questioning the hero-centric, remuneration-heavy model prevalent in the Telugu film industry. On the one hand, big stars act in just one movie in two years. On the other hand, their fees are astronomical. But some producers seem to believe they deserve all the appeasement. Â
