TN is a hub for electronics manufacturing, will soon become one for forged wheels: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Tamil Nadu is a hub for electronics manufacturing, and will soon become one for forged wheels too, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday.

“A big initiative of the Centre in Tamil Nadu is the forged wheel factory. In locomotives and high speed trains, very high strength wheels are required. They will be manufactured at a factory near Chennai. Indian Railways has fully supported the setting up of the factory. Tamil Nadu will become the hub for wheel manufacturing also. The State is also the hub for Vandhe Bharat manufacturing,” he said.

Earlier in March 2024, the minister said that the consortium of Ramkrishna Forgings and Titagarh Wagons will start production of forged wheels for Vande Bharat trains at Gummidipoondi near Chennai in 16-18 months.

He was addressing the audience virtually at an event on TamilAI organised by Deffo Tech.

Speaking at the function, the minister said that Tamil Nadu has one of the largest fleets of Vandhe Bharat trains. With this initiative of TamilAI, we will be able to use it in the Railway services also, he said. TamilAI will make a big impact on the way Indian languages get incorporated in the entire mission of AI, he said.

AI mission

“In AI, we have set up an AI mission where our entire thrust is on developing quantum computing facilities, solutions that can be used in the country, developing models that can be used in the diverse society of ours and making sure of having technological solutions to keep AI safe,” he said.

The Tamil AI is envisioned as more than a language model. It is a dynamic AI that users can interact with to ask questions in Tamil, write essays, compose poems, and perform metrical analysis using traditional Tamil grammar systems. It will enable people around the world to learn Tamil through other languages, bridging global linguistic communities. The Tamil AI will be the first language, outside English, to have its own comprehensive AI knowledge base, says a release.
