Ticket Hike sparks concerns among audience in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government’s approval of a Rs 75 + GST hike for Kuberaa tickets in single screens and multiplexes, effective for 10 days from its June 20th release, has raised eyebrows. This substantial increase is ill-suited for an emotional thriller like Kuberaa. This is not an event film like Pushpa 2, Kalki 2898 AD or Salaar.

Concerns are mounting that such high pricing could deter audiences, especially if early word-of-mouth is mixed. Since Kuberaa is more of a drama than an action potboiler, mixed talk is inevitable.

While the producers of Kuberaa might seek an initial box office boost, this move risks alienating price-sensitive viewers.

The desperation with which the price rise was sought validates the rumour that Kuberaa’s budget is too high. The makers are betting big on the movie’s theatrical success even though they had clinched a successful OTT deal.

Kuberaa stars Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Jim Sarbh and Rashmika Mandanna. Devi Sri Prasad is its music director.
