Thudarum box office collection Day 2: Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has been on a winning streak. The actor, fresh off the success of L2: Empuraan, is now set to deliver another hit with Thudarum. The Tharun Moorthy directorial released in theatres on Friday and has minted Rs 13.50 crore within two days of release. According to Sacnilk, the film saw a 57 per cent increase in its collection on Saturday, as it raked in Rs 8.25 crore.
Thudarum opened in theatres with a collection of Rs 5.25 crore on Friday, with a major chunk of the earnings coming from the Malayalam audience – Rs 5.24 crore – and only Rs 1 lakh contributed by the Telugu audience. This was followed by an increase in collection on Saturday. Owing to the positive reviews and word-of-mouth promotion, the film is expected to see a further rise on Sunday and is likely to maintain a strong hold at the box office if it continues its upward trend during its first weekend.
Mohanlal’s previous film L2: Empuraan performed better than Thudarum in its first two days of release. It had minted Rs 32.1 crore during the initial two days. However, it should also be factored in that L2: Empuraan was an action thriller with a much higher budget and greater mass appeal. Thudarum has, however, performed better than Mohanlal’s other recent releases. While Barroz minted Rs 5.05 crore within the first two days of release, Malaikottai Vaaliban raked in Rs 8.05 crore over the same period.

IndianExpress.com’s Anandu Suresh gave the film four stars and wrote, “The film’s biggest strength is undoubtedly Tharun Moorthy’s vision of exactly what to get out of each frame. Be it the glance or a gesture of one of the actors, or the overall setup, Tharun’s mastery as a storyteller is evident throughout the movie.”
