The shooting for Karthi’s Sardar 2 has wrapped up

Actor Karthi has officially concluded shooting for Sardar 2, the action-packed sequel to his 2022 blockbuster with director PS Mithran. The actor shared the update on Saturday via Instagram, posting behind-the-scenes moments with the team from Huahin Airport in Thailand. “That’s a wrap! What an adventure it’s been!!” he captioned the post, signalling the end of what appears to have been a demanding and dynamic shoot.

The sequel to Sardar — a film that seamlessly combined high-stakes espionage with personal redemption — continues the saga of a secret agent and his son, both played by Karthi in a dual role. While plot details remain closely guarded, the sequel promises to delve deeper into the world of international intelligence and buried family secrets. 

Joining the cast this time are SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Rajisha Vijayan, and Yogi Babu. Rajisha reprises her character from the original, suggesting narrative continuity, while new faces bring fresh intrigue to the table. The shoot, which spanned over 100 days, was carried out across visually striking locales in Cambodia and China — hinting at a more expansive global mission for the titular spy. 

Earlier this year, a prologue teaser was unveiled to tease fans with a taste of what’s to come — cryptic, urgent, and laced with global stakes. While the teaser refrained from giving away plot specifics, it hinted at an ambitious sequel with larger-than-life espionage, covert missions, and high-tech warfare. 

The creative team behind the camera includes composer Sam CS, who returns to score the film with his trademark atmospheric style. George C Williams handles cinematography, lending the visuals a polished, kinetic edge, while editor Vijay Velukutty is once again tasked with keeping the pacing sharp. The screenplay is crafted by Rathna Kumar, Aashameera Aiyappan, and Vignesh Muniyandi, promising a balance of emotional heft and plot-driven momentum. 

Produced by S Lakshman Kumar under the Prince Pictures banner, in association with Ishan Saksena, Sardar 2 is gearing up for its next phase in post-production. While the release date has not been officially announced, the completion of filming indicates that audiences won’t have to wait long before returning to this layered world of spies, shadows, and secrets.
