As Satyaprem Ki Katha completes two glorious years, one scene that continues to live rent-free in the minds of the audience is the unforgettable “chappal scene” a powerful turning point in the film that showcased the emotional depth of Kartik Aaryan’s character, Sattu.
The romantic drama may have been a box office success with its ₹125+ crore collection, soul-stirring music, and a family-centric storyline, but what truly lingered was the raw vulnerability Kartik brought to screen. Among many standout moments, this particular scene not only drew roaring applause and whistles in theatres but also stood out as a testimony to Kartik’s dedication as an actor.
We got goosebumps watching him act
In an interview, director Sameer Vidwans praised Kartik Aaryan’s raw intensity in the scene, crediting his instinct and emotional spontaneity for taking the moment to another level.
Speaking about Kartik Aaryan’s dedication to bringing that pivotal scene to life, director Sameer recalled, “Humne saare shots liye alag-alag angle se. Maine bola, ‘Yeh accha hai—I’m good.’” But Kartik wasn’t done. He insisted on doing it again until it felt perfect. “Sir, main aur ek karta hoon. Mujhe aur ek karna hai,” he had said.
This moment, for Sameer, was a reflection of why Kartik was always meant to be Sattu. He brought a rare kind of intensity to the character—the crying, the feeling, the surrender to the moment. It was raw and unplanned, and it got through to everyone on set. “Woh jaise rone laga, hum log ko goosebumps aa gaye… This is Kartik.”
Kartik Aaryan was always the right choice
Continuing the conversation about Sattu, Sameer revealed that from scripting to shooting, they always knew Kartik would play the role. Sattu needed a face that could carry innocence and honesty without performance—something Kartik delivered effortlessly. It was a casting choice that worked out beautifully. And in that one unscripted moment, with just a chappal and deeply internalised emotion, Kartik reminded everyone why Sattu remains one of Indian cinema’s purest green flags. The role held a kind of holiness—and no one else could have done it justice.
It’s been two years since the magic first reached the audience, and Kartik’s performance still carries the same weight. The intensity echoes even now.
