The Raja Saab’s storytelling, mesmerizing set steals the show

We are just a few hours away from watching the grand teaser of The Raja Saab, one of the biggest films in the career of Prabhas and the most expensive romantic horror-comedy in the history of Indian cinema. Ahead of the teaser, the Maruthi directorial’s super-grand Haveli set is drawing everyone’s attention.

Since the movie has fantasy elements, the makers didn’t want to compromise on the set. They rented a 41,256 sq-ft area and got the acclaimed art director Rajeevan Nambiar do the rest. “From towering doors to shadowy corridors and rooms that seem to hold a thousand secrets, the Haveli is packed with layers that unfold as the story progresses,” the makers revealed. Nambiar, who has previously worked on many big projects, thought like a story-teller. He spruced up the set not with surface-level props but with elements that make the audience feel the emotions intended by the film’s script. The viewer will be sucked into the world of the film because of how aesthetically superior and emotionally resonant the whole Haveli is.

Every single element, down to the smallest detail, was specifically designed and created for this particular Haveli. Even stones were chosen keeping in mind their texture, color, or how they are laid to create a sense of age and decay. We can also expect antique items that suggest a sinister past. Deliberate control over how light falls and where shadows are cast was also ensured through the right cinematography.

The Raja Saab will head to theatres on a grand scale on December 5.
