Thane Police crack Murbad murder case victim s wife stepsons

More than three weeks after an unidentified body was found in Murbad taluka of Maharashtra’s Thane district, police have solved the case and arrested the victim`s wife and two stepsons for his murder, news agency PTI reported.

According to officers, Thane Rural Police’s crime branch cracked the case after an extensive investigation.

The body of a man, said to be around 60 years old, was discovered dumped in the Divepada area of Murbad on October 6. Preliminary investigation revealed he had been strangled with a rope. A murder case was registered at Tokawade police station under sections 103(1) (murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Superintendent of Police Dr DS Swami and Additional SP Anmol Mittal supervised parallel investigations with multiple teams working to trace the victim’s identity.

Officers examined CCTV footage, verified missing persons’ reports across the state, and checked suspicious vehicles before a major breakthrough came through technical analysis led by PSI Mahesh Kadam.

The victim was a resident of Kalyan. The probe then turned toward his family, leading to the detention of his 28-year-old stepson, who is a tempo driver, PTI reported.

During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to killing his stepfather with the help of his 55-year-old mother and his 26-year-old brother, who is a car mechanic. The man`s mother is the victim`s second wife.

All three accused have been arrested. The exact motive behind the murder is still under investigation, police said.

Kalachowkie murder-suicide: Stabbed by ex, woman bled to death, says autopsy report

The preliminary post-mortem report in the Kalachowkie murder-suicide that took place on Friday has revealed that the victim, Manisha Yadav, died due to haemorrhage caused by multiple stab wounds, while the accused, Sonu Barai, died from shock resulting from a deep cut to his neck, police said on Saturday. A detailed analysis — including the exact number and location of stab injuries — is expected in a day or two.

According to the police, Barai attacked his estranged girlfriend, Yadav, suspecting that she was chatting with a man on Instagram. An eyewitness, Constable Kiran Suryavanshi from the Byculla Traffic Department, pulled the bleeding woman away from her attacker. He took her to hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries. Barai, who had slit his own throat, also died in hospital.
