Films whose stories unfold against the backdrop of a terrorist attack have been made across industries. No industry has made them more than Bollywood. But Telugu cinema is not too far behind.
Nagarjuna-starrer Azad is a case in point. Krishna Vamsi’s Khadgam was a complex story that had superb performances by Srikanth and Prakash Raj. Adivi Sesh’s Major was based on the life story of a Major who lost his life while saving civilian hostages during the 26/11 Mumbai attack. Gunnam Gangaraju’s Amma Cheppindi, starring Sharwanand in the lead, flopped big-time, but it had its moments. Srikanth-starrer Terror, which was released in 2016, remains an underrated gem. Naga Chaitanya’s Yuddham Saranam was bereft of logic and was a colossal dud.
When it comes to cohesive narration, research and detailing, Bollywood outshines Telugu cinema by a distance. From the 2019 movie Uri to the 2000 movie Mission Kashmir, the ambition of Hindi cinema has always been greater. Madras Cafe, released in 2013, remains one of the best movies in the genre. Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se, starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, had its poetic moments. Eve RGV-directed The Attacks of 26/11 had superior moments.
