Suryakumar Yadav smashed a 28-ball 54 against the Lucknow Super Giants to claim the Orange Cap as Mumbai Indians scored 215/7 in the first innings of their Indian Premier League clash at the Wankhede Stadium. Yadav’s knock throws down the gauntlet for Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran, who is currently fourth in the standings with 377 runs from nine innings. Virat Kohli, who is third in the Orange Cap race with 392 runs is also in action later when Royal Challengers Bengaluru face Delhi Capitals.
Yadav has scored 427 runs in 10 innings in IPL 2025.
“It’s the first time I am wearing this (Orange Cap) after a long time, feels really special,” Yadav told the broadcasters JioHotstar in the mid-innings break. “I was really happy when we lost the toss, because it is really hot out there but scoring 200-plus it is really good from a batting point of view. It’s a good score and I feel the wicket is a little slow and I feel it is going to be challenging out there for their batting line-up, let’s see how it goes.”

In the process, Yadav also became the third fastest batter to get to 4000 runs in the IPL. While Yadav took 2714 balls to get to the milestone, he was only behind the Royal Challengers Bengaluru pairing of Chris Gayle and AB De Villiers. While West Indies legend Gayle took 2658 balls to get to Mount 4000, De Villiers needed 2658 balls.
