A digital content creator allegedly died by suicide in Surat, Gujarat, on Friday after he failed to increase his follower base on social media.
According to the police, the 21-year-old man, a fitness freak with over 7K followers, used to create reels and upload them on social media. The man’s father, an auto-rickshaw driver, told the police that his son remained depressed for the past few days as he allegedly did not get more followers.
The man died at New Civil Hospital on Friday, a day after he reportedly attempted suicide at a cricket ground near his house.
“We have checked his social media account and found that he had made 376 reels and there were over 7,923 followers to date. He has been working as a ward boy under contract with Surat Municipal Corporation for the last year,” said a police officer.
