Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, released in theatres on October 2nd, coinciding with the celebrations of Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti. The pair previously collaborated on Bawaal. This film also features Rohit Saraf and Sanya Malhotra and is directed by Shashank Khaitan. As a romantic comedy, it was anticipated to have a moderate opening and may experience an increase in viewership due to positive word of mouth. Its release also coincided with Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1, thus naturally leading to competition. The opening day box office numbers for both films varied significantly, which is understandable given the differences in their scale and budget. 

 

According to Sacnilk, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari earned Rs 9.25 crore on its opening day. Based on advance bookings, expectations were for an opening between 8 and 10 crore rupees. We have recently witnessed that in a time when action and grand-scale films are popular, a romantic film like Saiyaara has broken records, paving the way for romantic comedies to regain their place in theatres. For a considerable period after the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a belief that romantic comedies were exclusively suited for OTT platforms rather than the big screen, but Saiyaara has challenged that notion.

So, in terms of that, this seems to be a decent opening, although it does not quite reach the historical benchmark of Rs 20 crore on its first day, as achieved by Saiyaara. However, there is a positive word of mouth circulating, and we might see Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari experiencing growth throughout the weekend. It is possible that it will achieve double-digit figures on both days, which would be advantageous.
