Subscription Service Might Arrive Soon

It seems that nowadays, just about everything requires a monthly subscription service. Samsung Health has remained a go-to health platform for people who don’t want to bother with that. However, according to a new report, Samsung Health could soon have a subscription service.

If Samsung does actually bring this subscription service, it could coincide with the launch of One UI 8 Watch. Right now, we can’t say for sure that Samsung will do this. However, it seems likely. In an interview with CNET, Samsung’s senior vice president and head of digital health, Dr. Hon Pak, stated that the company is “exploring a premium subscription model.”

Samsung Health might have a subscription service

We’re no strangers to subscription-based health apps. They mostly provide you with the basics, like tracking and standard analytics. However, accessing deeper insights into your health and advanced tools typically requires you to pony up every month.

Samsung Health, on the other hand, provided all of its features for free. So, if the company does happen to introduce a subscription service, it will be a pretty big disappointment for veteran users. However, the silver lining is that Samsung may not lock existing features behind the paywall. Rather, it could launch new features with One UI 8 Watch and charge you for those.

Right now, Samsung is beta testing features like running coach, antioxidant index, and vascular load. It announced these features for devices running One UI 8 Watch. So, it’s possible that these features could launch with the subscription service. Only time will tell.

At the moment, we don’t know what sort of price Samsung is eyeing. The standard seems to sit at around $10/month. That’s the price for Fitbit’s subscription service. So, Samsung could either look to match the competition or undercut it by shaving off a few dollars. In any case, we should hopefully find out more when Samsung unveils the Galaxy Watch 8 next month. Rumor has it that the company’s next unpacked event will happen sometime in July.
