
An unidentified person has been booked for allegedly placing a stone on the railway tracks between Thane and Kalwa stations in Maharashtra, a police official said on Friday, reported the PTI.
A fouling stone (used as a marker for trains) was broken from the Down line and placed on Down local line, the Thane railway police station official said on Friday.
“It was observed at 10:38 pm on Wednesday. The track was given the safety all-clear by 10:50 pm. The incident is being treated as a deliberate act of mischief. A mishap could have occurred due to the presence of the stone. A case was registered on Thursday under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Railways Act for act endangering life and other offences,” he said, according to the PTI.
A probe is underway and efforts are on to nab the suspect involved in the incident, the official added.
Coal-laden goods train derails in Jalgaon; rail traffic affected on Nandurbar-Surat route
Meanwhile, in an another incident on Thursday, a goods train derailed in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra on Thursday afternoon, the officials said.
The incident resulted in the Down and Up lines of the Nandurbar-Surat section of Western Railway getting blocked, officials said, as per the PTI.
Seven wagons, including a locomotive, of the train laden with coal heading towards Gandhinagar in Gujarat from Gugus in Maharashtra`s Chandrapur district derailed at Amalner, some 350 kilometres from here, at 2:18pm, WR chief public relations officer Vineet Abhishek said, according to the PTI.
“There is no report of any casualty. Crew members of the goods train are safe. Senior officials are at the site along with accident relief trains (ARTs) from Udhana, Bhusawal and Nandurbar. Restoration work is underway. All efforts are underway to restore operations at the earliest,” he said, the news agency reported.
Sources told the PTI that both the Down and Up lines of the Nandurbar-Surat route are blocked due to the derailment.
The Nandurbar-Surat train, which is blocked due to a wagon, is expected to be cleared soon, the official added, the news agency reported on Thursday.
