While filmmaker SS Rajamouli is busy shooting his highly anticipated film, tentatively titled SSMB29, in Odisha, he is also making time to enjoy the state’s scenic beauty. Recently, he embarked on a solo trek along the Deomali trail, the highest mountain peak in Odisha, but what he encountered during his journey left him disappointed.
Rajamouli shared breathtaking video from his hike on Instagram, including snapshots from the summit. He wrote, “Had an amazing solo trek to Deomali, Odisha’s highest and most stunning peak. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking.” However, in the caption, he also expressed his disappointment over tourists littering the trail. Criticizing the lack of civic sense, he urged visitors to be more responsible. “However, it was disheartening to see the trail marred by litter. Such pristine wonders deserve better. A little civic sense can make a huge difference… Every visitor should carry back their waste to help protect these places,” he wrote.
Rajamouli began filming SSMB29 in Odisha earlier this month, joined by lead actors Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. On Wednesday, Priyanka took to Instagram to share that she was flying to New York from Odisha. Though she did not explicitly confirm filming in the state, it is evident that she was there for Rajamouli’s project. She also shared a heartwarming incident from her journey to Visakhapatnam, where she was inspired by a roadside guava seller.
Backed by KL Narayana, SSMB29 is expected to be the most expensive Indian film ever made. Rajamouli’s last directorial, RRR, was a massive box-office success, with its song Naatu Naatu winning the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. It became the first song from an Indian film, as well as the first from an Asian film, to win in this category.
