Spotted deer strays out, dies after being attacked by dogs on Hyderabad University campus | Hyderabad News

A spotted deer died after being attacked by a pack of dogs near one of the hostels in the South Campus of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Friday.

The deer was found injured in the backyard of J-Hostel in the South Campus. Security personnel, along with a few students, took it to Nallagandla veterinary hospital around 11.30 am. “It was an aged deer. It was injured, and while we were shifting the deer to the hospital, it is said to have suffered a heart attack,” security officer Dayanand told indianexpress.com, quoting doctors.

“(Telangana Chief Minister) Revanth Reddy said there are no spotted deer or tigers on campus. This injured deer is the best example. This deer was injured by a pack of dogs and was rescued by the university’s security team. Because of bulldozing the 400 acres of land that was home to several species of animals, including spotted deer, they have started to come out of their habitat. If you look closely, the deer was severely injured. Revanth Reddy, who spread lies about the campus, should watch this,” said one of the students.

Of late, such cases have been increasing, said students. “Deer are increasingly straying out of their habitats, chased by dogs, which sometimes kill them. Many have also been hit by vehicles,” said Bishnu, another student. The security officer said this is the second incident of deer death at the UoH this year due to a dog attack.
