Spotify has quietly rolled out a new functionality, which lets you remotely download music on your smartwatch directly from your phone or tablet. Users of the Wear OS-powered watches, such as the Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch, will gain access to the popular audio streaming service’s new feature.
The company first introduced the feature to let users download music to their smartwatches in 2021. However, you could only download music to the wearable by navigating its small screen. Spotify is now finally bringing the ability to download your favorite music to your smartwatches.
Now you can remotely download Spotify music on your watch
According to reports, Spotify is stepping up its game by introducing the ability to let you download music on your logged-in devices, including a watch, remotely. This feature supports smartwatches, desktops, and tablets, even if they’re not nearby. For example, you can download songs, playlists, or full albums of your favorite artists to your wearable directly from your phone.
To download music for offline listening on your smartwatch from your phone, hit the three-dot options button that shows beside any playlist in the Spotify app. Then, tap the ‘Download to other devices’ option and hit the Download icon on the right side of your watch’s name from the list. Similarly, you can use this feature to remotely download music to your logged-in devices like iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches.
According to reports, the feature is working on the Galaxy S23 Ultra running One UI 7 and the Galaxy Watch 4 based on Wear OS 5.0. The music streaming platform is rolling out the feature in a gradual manner, so not all users will be able to use it right away.
Spotify is also making it easier to manage downloads
Furthermore, Spotify is also rolling out other download management-related features to its smartphone app. There’s now a new “Manage downloads” button on a playlist. Here, you’ll be able to see a list of your phones, smartwatches, or tablets, and which ones have the playlist downloaded. This feature will be helpful when you’re approaching the five-device limit for offline downloads on your Spotify Premium account.
As expected, Spotify’s new features are available only for premium subscribers. Spotify’s premium plans start at $11.99/month for individuals and go up to $19.99/month for a family plan.
