Six days after she was stabbed, woman dies; friend arrested: Delhi police | Delhi News

Days after a 20-year-old woman was stabbed allegedly by her friend at Delhi Cantonment after she reportedly refused to rekindle their relationship, she succumbed to her injuries at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital on Saturday, police said.

Following this, her friend Amit (20), who allegedly attempted suicide by stabbing himself after injuring her on the road on April 6, was booked for murder. Amit, who was also recuperating at DDU hospital, was arrested when he was discharged on Saturday, said police. When questioned earlier, Amit had allegedly told the police he suspected the woman was in touch with other men. “In her statement, the victim has said that she and the man were in a romantic relationship for the last one year. However, when she did not want to continue the relationship, a dispute arose between the two,” DCP (South West) Surender Chaudhary had said.

The woman’s family members had told The Indian Express that the two met at a sari shop in Sadar Bazar, where they worked.

According to the police, video footage had showed them walking together in Delhi Cantonment hours before the incident on April 6, two days before the woman’s 20th birthday. The footage also showed the two having a heated argument near Kirby Place bus stop before the man attacked her from behind, stabbing her in the neck and chest. He would later stab himself in the abdomen.
