Shimla police have lodged an FIR against a government school teacher for allegedly slapping a girl student in the classroom because the student did not slap her classmates hard enough for failing to memorise Sanskrit words.
The alleged incident took place last week.
Sources said the FIR was registered under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act (JJA) and Section 115(2) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, following a complaint by the victim’s mother. The case was filed at Chhota Shimla police station. The victim is the class monitor.
Police said the girl’s mother alleged that during a Sanskrit class, the teacher had asked her daughter and other students to memorise word meanings. Later, when the teacher questioned them, many failed to answer correctly.
According to the complaint, the teacher then instructed the class monitor to stand up and slap all the students who had answered incorrectly. Out of fear, the girl hesitantly gave light slaps. However, the teacher, apparently dissatisfied, slapped the girl forcefully before also slapping two other students.
