Shah Rukh Khan introduces himself at Met Gala as foreign media fails to recognise him; fans unimpressed with Sabya couture look | Bollywood News

Shah Rukh Khan scripted history as the first Indian male to walk the red carpet at the prestigious Met Gala in Manhattan. The actor arrived bedazzled, in Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s couture for the year’s dress code “Tailored for You” and the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” SRK, according to his designer, wore a “floor-length elongated coat in Tasmanian superfine wool with monogrammed, Japanese horn buttons,” while also carrying “The Bengal Tiger Head Cane crafted in 18k gold with tourmalines, sapphires, old mine cut and brilliant cut diamonds.”

Everything about his look screamed couture elegance, carrying King Khan’s signature charm as he graced the blue-washed carpet at the Metropolitan Centre, complete with a ‘K’ necklace as a nod to his ‘King’ legacy in Bollywood. However, a moment left fans with a sour impression after a video surfaced showing SRK introducing himself during an interview on the red carpet. A video captured during his red carpet walk, moments after he flaunted his signature Mai Hoon Na pose, shows him approaching a journalist who asks him to introduce himself. Surprised, he responds, “Hi, I’m Shah Rukh.” The person behind the camera then asks him to introduce his designer and the outfit for the night. He goes on to introduce Sabyasachi and shares the inspiration behind the outfit.

SRK opens up about his Met Gala 2025 look

In a separate moment, being interviewed by Vogue’s correspondents, SRK was asked how it feels to make history as the first Indian male Bollywood star to debut at the Met Gala. To which, the actor humbly replied, “I don’t know about history, but I’m nervous, I’m excited, and Sabyasachi here…” he said, looking at the designer standing next to him, adding, “He convinced me to come.” The actor, who has given so many blockbusters, admitted that he’s shy to be there. The interviewers then praised Sabyasachi and joked about the blue-red carpet, asking if that made him any less nervous, to which SRK replied, “I’m absolutely alright.” SRK added that what he was wearing was very comfortable for him and made him feel confident and excited, mentioning that he mostly wears black and white.

On Instagram, designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee gave a detailed look at SRK’s outfit and wrote, “Shah Rukh Khan is one of the greatest superstars in the world. A cinematic hero, his blockbuster performances and leading-man charisma have created a legendary international fan following. My interpretation of the Black Dandy demonstrates his superstardom on a global stage. Dressed in classic menswear with the maximalist flourish of Sabyasachi, Shah Rukh Khan is a magician, superstar, and icon. Period.”

However, fans of SRK were left a little unimpressed with the actor’s look for the night, which, according to them, was quite basic and casual. They seemed more disappointed with Sabyasachi, whom they felt could have done a better job, like the one he did with Alia last year—a truly magical moment. “SRK’s Met Gala look was so underwhelming,” one social media user wrote, while praising Diljit’s Maharaja look. “They need to escort him off the carpet. SRK, what the hell is this outfit?” wrote another. “Heartbroken seeing Shah Rukh at the Met pull up like that.” A third added, “Like, come on, SRK doesn’t need jewelry that says SRK… we KNOW. That’s the whole point. 1 in 2 people on this PLANET knows who he is.”
