Seven Telugu Film Stars Unite Against Online Trolling

Seven prominent Telugu film heroes are reportedly collaborating to curb the rising tide of mindless, tasteless, degenerate trolling by meme makers and online harassers, as hinted by actor and Movie Artists Association (MAA) president Manchu Vishnu. The group is exploring a class action lawsuit to hold trolls accountable, aiming to set a legal precedent that could reshape online behavior toward celebrities. Vishnu recently suggested that this collective effort could spell the end for unchecked trolling if successful.

If the lawsuit succeeds, it could deter trolls by imposing strict penalties, leveraging cybercrime laws and civil remedies like damages. This case could redefine online accountability in India’s entertainment industry.

Manchu Vishnu seems to have done extensive background work in making this plausible. Usually, celebs don’t explore legal options for want of time and their general lack of awareness. Female actors can lodge harassment complaints if a social media user passes vulgar comments, but they don’t do it because they might need to be present in the court more than a few times. Recently, Anasuya Bharadwaj got a social media user arrested for sexualizing her in an obscene manner.
