Sensex, Nifty up 1%, Top gainers & losers today: Wipro down 5%, Gensol, KFin Tech, Waaree Renewables, SBI Cards shares in action

IT stocks continued to drag despite the broader market rebound intraday. After a flat opening, benchmark indices delivered sharp rebound in the mid-trading session.

Sensex jumped 1007.23 pts or 1.31 per cent to 78,051.52 as at 12.33 pm, and Nifty 50 soared 267.05 pts or 1.14% to 23,704.25.

Banking sector gained over 1 per cent. Nifty IT index was down 0.87 per cent to 33,006.15 at the time of writing. Smallcap and midcap indices traded flat.

However, market experts believe that the investor’s sentiments remain under pressure due to weak global cues and the Trump tariff war. US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell recently pointed out the significant impact of tariffs on the global economy.

On the domestic front, the fourth-quarter earnings season has added a cautious tone to the market.

The volatility index was up 2.94 per cent to 16.33.

Top gainers & losers today

Shares of Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Eternal, Sun Pharma and Grasim traded among top gainers of Nifty 50 components, while Wipro, Hero Motocorp, Larsen & Turbo, Tech Mahindra and HCL Technologies were the major laggards.

Of all the 2,835 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange, 1,870 of them advanced and 882 declined.

ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra rose 1-3 per cent.

Leading the gainers of Nifty 50, Bharti Airtel rose 2.89 per cent to ₹1,875.20.

ICICI Bank gained 2.68 per cent to ₹1,392.80. Grasim Industries traded 2.05 per cent positive at ₹2,758.30.

Eternal recorded 2.53 per cent gain to trade at ₹277.70 and pharma major Sun Pharma shares were up 1.96 per cent to ₹1,726.30.

Among the laggards, Wipro shares plunged 5 per cent to ₹234.90. The IT major had warned of a weak quarter ahead amid global uncertainties, pushing brokerages to take cautious calls.

Other IT stocks – Infosys and Tech Mahindra also fell over 1 per cent. Infosys is set to announce Q4 results today.

Auto major Hero Motocorp decreased 1.37 per cent to ₹3,730.10 on suspending production at four of its plants from April 17 to April 19 in order to undertake short-term supply alignment.

L&T shares were down 1.01 per cent to ₹,194.

Stocks in action

SBI Cards and Payment Services and Waaree Renewable Technologies were among those 49 stocks that hit 52-week highs today.

Meanwhile, Gensol hit another lower circuit after SEBI barred company and its promoters from securities markets till further orders in a fund diversion and governance lapses case.

Among Nifty 100, ABB, Jindal Steel, CG Power, Adani Energy Solutions shares surged 3-5 per cent. KFin Technologies, Delhivery, NBCC, IGIL shares soared among smallcaps, while HUDCO, KEI, 360 One and NTPC Green gained among midcap index.

KFin shares rallied 8.18 per cent to ₹1,138.50 on entering a definitive agreement with Ascent Fund Services (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. to acquire an immediate controlling stake of 51 per cent.

On the BSE, shares of Fusion Finance rallied 12 per cent, while Sonata Software, Wipro and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals traded in negative territory.

Infosys, HDFC Life Insurance Company, Jio Financial Services, HDFC Asset Management Company, Tata Elxsi, and Mahindra EPC Irrigation are among the firms announcing their results today. Follow our live
