
A 60-year-old man was killed after a violent clash erupted between two families over a property dispute in Mumbai`s Aarey Colony, the police said on Saturday.
According to the police, a violent clash took place on the night of May 1 in Unit No. 32 of the Mandva slum in Aarey Colony over a property dispute linked to alleged land encroachment and the clash between two families resulted in the death of senior citizen who was identified as Furkan Khan.
“Khan was seriously injured in the incident and succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital late on Friday night,” an official said.
Official sources said that the conflict began when Khan, accompanied by his family and 10 to 15 acquaintances, confronted Zoharuddin alias Kalu, Azharuddin, and their family and relatives who were residing in a hut on an alleged disputed land.
A heated argument quickly escalated into a brutal brawl, with both sides attacking each other using weapons including swords, choppers, and iron rods, a police official said.
He said that several individuals from both sides sustained serious injuries and Khan was critically injured in the incident.
Khan was shifted to Trauma Care Hospital and later taken to the Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle where he died during treatment, the police said.
Confirming the incident, Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Patil of Aarey Police said that the police have registered a cross-case against both sides under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of murder and attempted murder.
“Three individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the violence and further investigations were going on,” a police official said.
