Samsung’s Galaxy Wearables Are Finally Getting the AI They Deserve

Google Gemini is a super useful AI tool, but when it comes to wearables like Samsung’s Galaxy Watch smartwatches and Galaxy Buds, users have to make do with Google Assistant. That, or Samsung’s own Bixby tool, which let’s be honest, is not as good as Assistant. Thankfully, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds users will be able to upgrade to Gemini soon, and trust us when we say it’s definitely an upgrade.

Today, during its Android Show: I/O Edition livestream event, Google confirmed that Gemini would be making the jump to Samsung’s wearables, making them ever more useful than they were before. Samsung has also confirmed this suite of upcoming features and sheds a little more light on the details. Now, if you’ve never used Gemini, there’s a reason why it’s superior to Assistant. Conversations feel even more natural than Assistant, and that allows for some follow-up responses that just weren’t possible before. With Gemini on Galaxy wearable devices soon, you can stay hands-free more often.

Gemini is coming to Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds “in the coming months”

There is one small hiccup that users will want to be aware of. The Gemini update isn’t coming to Galaxy wearables right away. In fact, it will probably be a little while before you can use it. Samsung’s blog post confirms that the update is dropping in “the coming months.” So, that likely means it won’t be available to users until the end of the Summer.

That might be a tiny bit of a bummer, but at least there’s finally a confirmation that the feature is coming. You’ve waited this long, what’s an extra month or three?

Samsung hasn’t confirmed device compatibility yet

Now, Samsung doesn’t mention device compatibility when it comes to models. Having said that, it’s still unclear which devices are going to be getting Gemini. Presumably, this will be limited to the most recent smartwatches and earbuds. More specifically, the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra, and the Galaxy Buds 3 series.

It’s basically a given that the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Ultra will get Gemini. However, what about the Galaxy Watch 6 series? This seems likely, too, though it’s not a sure thing just yet. In fact, the only device Samsung mentions by name in its announcement is the Galaxy Buds 3 series.
